9 Reasons To Start A Blog
8. You'll Gain Confidence - Particularly If You're Shy!
There are lot of reasons why blogging is a fantastic hobby to take up. We'll start this list with the build of confidence, something I can say blogging has done for me, a very shy person in the real world. There is something really satisfying that readers find your writing interesting enough to want to read and sometimes even become a follower! Whether it is something you're interested in writing about yourself or a true life story of yours, it will never be disappointing to see so many people reading your work every single day! The good news is, it is really easy to develop your confidence through blogging as little social effort is needed at all - you write a post, you upload it, and people read it! It's as simple as that, and the rewards are huge. If you struggle with confidence, you will notice the change very soon after you begin blogging.
7. It's Just Like A Personal Diary (If You Want It To Be)
If you are considering writing a blog, I would say writing a personal blog is among the most therapeutic (and also popular) varieties to try, especially for your first time! My very first blog was littered with stories of my own from my reality and although at the time it was very early on and I'm pretty certain not one person ever saw them, I took solace in knowing my stories were out in the open and no longer kept inside my head to ponder on. Though be warned, it is easy to either overshare, or waffle, both of which will kill a blog in an instant. If you want to make your blog personal, make it interesting to read without sharing too much of the distasteful details. It is easier to motivate yourself to start a blog if you write about your own experiences. Why? Well, as humans we love nothing more than to talk about ourselves and share our own feelings for a response, so it is unlikely you will ever get writer's block or leave the blog to run dry if you choose a personal diary as your topic to follow.
6. It Is Great Experience For Writing!
Not everyone is naturally gifted at writing, and that's okay! Blogging is a fantastic way of developing your writing skills from any level of experience. For those who are just beginning, you can relax at the fact that in the early days of any blog, it is unlikely to get viewed - so you can practice writing away until a post is perfected! For amateur writers, a blog makes for a fantastic and easily-accessible portfolio for potential employers or as a university project to share ideas with others. Whatever you decide to use it for, you can guarantee that blogging will improve your writing in some shape or form. It is also a fun hobby to have, no more hours are spent studying the dictionary or reading a book that deep down you're not enjoying. Now you can be both productive with your learning and enjoy it in the process!
5. There Is Potential To Earn A Living
This is not the most important reason to begin blogging, but it couldn't be left out as many bloggers do earn a decent living from their online presence. Just be aware that if this is the sole reason you wish to begin blogging, it isn't for you. Earning money from a blog isn't as easy as one, two and three. I've been running Emily's World for over two years now without finding that success and I am not disheartened because my goal never was to earn from it to begin with. You will have to work hard to get your name out there. It is possible, but hard work - it won't happen within the first few months, or even years, but it isn't an impossible task, as many bloggers have shown. If your content is driving a huge audience, it may be worth setting up promotions with brands or using applications like AdSense to start the earning process.
4. You Will Make Friends!
The blogging community are fantastic. Both readers and bloggers are both helpful and supportive and you will find making friends very easy in the online world if you find it tricky in the real world. Making friends is the best way of gaining reputation for your blog without having to try too hard, plus you know the people who are supporting you are interested and not doing it for their own personal gain. Depending on who you meet, more opportunities may arise, such as featuring on their blog or having a joined promotion which will all benefit the growth of your blog. You can share ideas with fellow bloggers who would be more than willing to check over your work and leave honest advice, you can help them too. More experienced bloggers will be more than happy to lend a helping hand, particularly helpful if they are a skilled blogger who can offer the best advice for your content. Remember, blogging can be a personal hobby, in someone's writing is always a part of their personality - what you see is what you get, it is a culture of genuine and kind people where there are few bad guys.
3. You Can Document Your Self-Growth
I look back at some of my earliest posts and wince. Did I really write that? Why did I think that was interesting? There have been times where I wanted to go back and remove a handful of posts that I have read back and wept at the stupidity of them all. But on every occasion I have felt this way, I have never deleted a single post. What is a more authentic blogging journey than leaving the novice, poorly written posts for all to see? Despite my dislike of them, it always satisfies me more knowing I can now spot the mistakes and would not make them again in future posts, besides, we can all do with a laugh sometimes, even if that is at my own cost. It is hard to document ones self-growth unless they keep a regular diary, and like point number 7, it is always self-motivating to track your progress in any aspect of your life, so keeping it all in one place makes it much easier to appreciate.
