Is Quitting Ever The Right Answer?

Quitting Your Job
I suppose many of you will have thought of quitting throughout your life, maybe you're unhappy with your job, you feel unfairly treated at a certain club or maybe you've just had enough of the hobby you used to have passion for, but this is no longer the case. Though these may all be valid reasons to give up, is quitting ever the right answer?

If you are stuck on whether to get out of a situation or not, the best thing you can do is step back, and ask yourself seriously, why am I quitting? If it is a legitimate reason, then maybe that would be the relevant step, however if you find yourself wondering what reasons you have, try holding on just a little longer. Many interviewers for jobs use that exact question to get a feel for that person's values and general character. Use this to analyse yourself, further persuading you to either carry on or not.

My personal opinion is that quitting is okay in certain situations, and although perseverance is often encouraged, sometimes it isn't necessary, particularly if it's at the expense of your happiness or well being. Overall the judgement should be yours whether you give up or not, as only you would know exactly how you feel about it. I'm sure there are plenty of friends out there willing to give you their point of view, but nothing will come close to yours, trust your judgement.

Never lie to yourself or others. If you took it upon yourself to quit, stand by it, be proud of your decision, because ultimately you are the best person to decide that. Anyone who knows your journey will understand your reasoning, and won't be confrontational about it.

The benefits of quitting are plenty, and easily the most beneficial one for you is that it allows you to focus on perhaps more desirable and important areas of your life. Make this decision for you and you only, if quitting a weekly club means you have more time to relax, then do it, it's all about prioritising what you believe is more important to you. More often than not, quitting on the irrelevant things makes you excel in what you are focusing on as there is more time dedicated to it.

With some situations, writing a book for example, the best approach is to leave it be for a shorter period of time, and then come back to it when you are feeling refreshed and ready to continue. A change of scenery is enough to get the creative juices flowing which motivates you to carry on.
